SheetTrack

See what a client changed in your Excel model

Updated: October 20, 2026

You sent the model to a client, a lender or a colleague, and it came back. Before you build on their copy, you want to know exactly what they touched. SheetTrack, a free Excel add-in coming soon to Microsoft AppSource, lists it cell by cell, without changing either file.

Compare their copy with the one you sent

  1. Open their copy in Excel and open SheetTrack (Home → SheetTrack).
  2. On Changes, choose Since → Choose a file…, then pick the copy you sent (.xlsx or .xlsm).
  3. Changes lists every value and formula that is different from your copy, each named by its row and column ("Revenue growth · FY27"), with inserted rows, sorted rows and renamed sheets as one line each.

The file you pick is read in SheetTrack on your computer. It is not uploaded or kept. This works for any workbook, tracked or not, with no sign-in. In Excel on the web, pick a file saved on your computer.

If you track the model, SheetTrack finds the version you sent

When you send a tracked workbook whose history is on your computer and the copy comes back, save their file and open SheetTrack on it. Choose It came back to me: SheetTrack finds the version you sent, and Changes lists only what changed in their copy since then, not the work you did on the original meanwhile. SheetTrack takes the closest of your recent versions, so saving a version just before you send helps it find the exact one.

Then decide what to keep

Formatting, charts, pivot tables and comments are not compared. Files saved by other programs, such as Google Sheets, come back without SheetTrack's record, so compare them as a file instead. See the support page for the details.
